Following the announcement of Queensland’s 2015 state election last week, Queensland Law Society today thanked both major parties for delivering their responses to the Society’s Call to Parties.
The Call to Parties highlights nine priority issues important for the legal profession, including Queensland’s law reform process, access to justice, access to fair injuries compensation and criminal law in Queensland.
President Michael Fitzgerald said that the parties’ commitment to delivering relevant policies on the issues that matter to Queensland’s legal profession was a positive sign for ongoing consultation with the government, regardless of the outcome on 31 January.
“The Society sees evidence-based policy making, consultation and guaranteed Legal Aid funding as the key issues that will affect Queensland’s legal profession and the wider community in the next three years,” Mr Fitzgerald said.
Queensland Law Society’s Call to Parties document is available at qls.com.au and the responses were published in yesterday’s edition of the Society’s online member publication, QLS Update.
