Queensland Law Society president Bill Potts has applauded the state government on their plan to strengthen laws which will give police greater powers to respond to acts of terrorism and public emergencies.
“Our police in Queensland are doing a great job day in, day out,” he said.
“I am pleased to see them provided with the ability to assist the community best in an emergency situation.”
The new laws will equip police with the power to respond swiftly in the case of a public emergency and will aim to provide consistency on a national scale.
“These new laws will assist in keeping Queenslanders safe, while also ensuring that the rights of our community members remain intact,” Mr Potts said.
“The Society looks forward to consulting with the Government further on these new laws.”
