Queensland Law Society members Professor Bernard McCabe and Kent Chapman have been appointed to roles on Australia’s Administrative Appeals Tribunal.
Society president Bill Potts was quick to congratulate the pair after their appointments were announced by Federal Attorney-General George Brandis.
“Solicitors are ideally suited to higher office and have all the skills necessary to fulfil all of the requirements needed for these roles,’’ Mr Potts said.
“The Society of course congratulates Professor McCabe and Mr Chapman on their appointments.’’
In making the announcement Mr Brandis said Professor McCabe would take up one of two roles as Deputy President of the Tribunal.
“(Professor McCabe) will serve as the Division head of the Taxation and Commercial Division and head of the Social Security and Child Support Division,’’ Mr Brandis said.
“In addition, Kent Chapman … (has) been appointed as a full-time member for a period of five years.’’
The pair’s appointments came during an announcement of 29 positions to be filled on the Tribunal.
