Queensland Law Society will celebrate 50 years of their Symposium at the Brisbane Exhibition and Convention Centre on Friday 30 to Saturday 31 March with its biggest showcase of international and national stars, including Erin Brockovich, Geoffrey Robertson and Bernard Salt.
All members of the public are invited to attend the special QLS 50th Anniversary Vincents’ Symposium breakfast with guest speaker Erin Brockovich, held in partnership with the Women Lawyers’ Association of Queensland and proudly sponsored by Shine Lawyers.
At the special event breakfast, Erin will share unique insights into her journey from single mother of three with no legal training to one of the world’s most influential consumer advocates on the international landscape.
Lawyers attending Symposium will enjoy two days of intense learning, career building, networking and entertainment, including two new streams, one in coal seam gas and one for early career lawyers.
Queensland Law Society president Dr John de Groot said coal seam gas was a crucial topic to Queenslanders, inspiring the Society to dedicate a full day to it.
“Queensland is starting to see some real traction in the development of our multi-billion dollar coal seam gas industry so it’s imperative the legal profession understands the legislative and political landscape surrounding it,” Dr de Groot said.
“We’ve tailored the sessions to regional and rural practitioners and those from larger law firms who practise in this area
“The other new stream allows early career lawyers to receive career guidance, build their mediation skills, learn the basic components of their chosen area of law and ensure work-life balance.”
“All ten Symposium streams offer an outstanding professional development program featuring world class speakers and as a bonus, there are wide-ranging trade exhibits.”
Exhibitors at this year’s include WestPac, mediLaw, Vincents, Citec and Shine Lawyers so it’s set to be an exciting hub of activity and an ideal place to meet for a coffee or gelato.
To cap off a stellar Symposium, Sunday 1 April features the Chief Justice's Annual Cricket match between barristers and solicitors, which promises to ruffle some silks and suits on the pitch.
