Legal policy reform - have your say

Practitioners are invited to provide their opinions and feedback as Queensland Law Society policy committees prepare these submissions.

Termination of Pregnancy Bill 2018
QLS is seeking views on the Bill, that was introduced by the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice on 22 August 2018. The Queensland Law Reform Commission report, ‘Review of termination of pregnancy laws’, is available here.

Due to the short government reporting timeframe, the parliamentary committee is calling for immediate submissions on the Bill. We kindly request that any Bill feedback is submitted before COB today, Wednesday 5 September 2018.

Treasury Laws Amendment (Consumer Data Right) Bill 2018
The Australian Government is seeking views on the exposure draft legislation and accompanying explanatory materials, which implement this measure. The Treasury Laws Amendment (Consumer Data Right) Bill 2018 will primarily amend the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 but will also consequentially amend the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Information Commissioner Act 2010.

Please provide your feedback on the Bill before COB Thursday 6 September 2018.

Revenue and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2018
The policy objectives of the omnibus Bill include supporting the expansion of electronic conveyancing and ensuring registration requirements for charitable institutions that relate to the use of income and property operate as intended. The explanatory notes detail the amendments to individual Acts.

The Bill also seeks to give retrospective effect to a range of administrative arrangements for property and land tax. It will also seek to reinstate the ‘last claim standing’ provision as previously understood by decision-makers under the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Heritage Act 2003 prior to the Supreme Court ruling on Nuga Nuga Aboriginal Corporation v Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships [2017].

Please provide your feedback before COB Thursday 6 September 2018.
