Legal policy submissions

QLS consults with policy committees, members and other stakeholders on law reform. We regularly invite these stakeholders to provide comment for submissions to parliamentary committees.

Competition and consumer law
On 25 January 2019, the Society responded to the Senate Standing Committee on Economics in relation to the Treasury Laws Amendment (Prohibiting Energy Market Misconduct) Bill 2018 [Provisions]. The submission focused on the definition of ‘prohibited conduct’, the ‘public interest’ test and section 153 of the Bill.

General advocacy
On 30 January 2019, QLS responded to the Law Council of Australia in relation to the Australian Citizenship Amendment (Strengthening the Citizenship Loss Provisions) Bill 2018. The submission focused on amendments to the Australian Citizenship Act 2007.
