Legal policy submissions and public hearings

QLS consults with policy committees, members and other stakeholders on law reform and regularly invites them to provide comment on submissions to parliamentary committees.

Property and development
On 31 August 2018, the QLS Property and Development Law Committee wrote a response to the Department of Justice and Attorney-General in relation to QUT’s Final Report on the Building Units and Group Titles Act 1980.

General advocacy
On 5 September 2018, QLS, with the assistance of our Criminal Law and Health and Disability Law Committees, wrote a response to the Health, Communities, Disability Services and Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Committee about the Termination of Pregnancy Bill 2018.

On 7 September 2018, QLS, with the assistance of our Not for Profit, Revenue Law, Property and Development Law, Mining and Resources Law and Reconciliation and First Nations Advancement Committees, wrote a response to the Economic and Governance Committee about the Revenue and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2018.

Parliamentary committee public hearings

On 12 September 2018, QLS President Ken Taylor, Health and Disability Law Committee Chair Karen Williams, and Criminal Law Committee Deputy Chair Rebecca Fogerty appeared at the public hearing before the Health, Communities, Disability Services and Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Committee on the Termination of Pregnancy Bill 2018. On 17 September 2018, QLS President Ken Taylor, Criminal Law Committee member Brittany White and QLS Legal Policy Manager Binari De Saram appeared at the public hearing before the Legal Affairs and Community Safety Committee on the Criminal Code (Non-consensual Sharing of Intimate Images) Amendment Bill 2018.
