Offender Levy commences on Tuesday, 21 August 2012

The Queensland Government has introduced a levy to be applied to any adult offender sentenced from Tuesday, 21 August 2012, which will be enforced by the State Penalties Enforcement Registry.  This levy does not form part of the sentence imposed by the court and the amount of the levy is $100 for matters heard in the Magistrates Court and $300 in the District and Supreme Courts (to be set out in the Penalties and Sentences Regulation 2005).

The offender levy will not apply in the following cases:

  • offences dealt with under a Commonwealth Act
  • subsequent hearings such as re-sentencing, re-hearing or appeals
  • breach of bail offences
  • breach of suspended sentences
  • bail forfeiture

Further information on the offender levy can be found on the Queensland Courts website.
