3 August 2017
President Christine Smyth welcomes the opening of the new Legal Aid Office at Southport. It is pleasing the government has committed to ongoing financial support of this legal sector. It is recognition that Southport is the busiest regional Magistrate's Court in Queensland and the Gold Coast is the fastest growing city in Australia facing unique challenges. Legal Aid provides an essential service, funding legal advice and representation for the poorest and most vulnerable people in our society. It is one of the bulwarks for access to justice in Queensland.
