Request for feedback: Expert assistance pilot for child protection matters

On 2 July 2018, an expert assistance pilot program launched in the Cairns and Beenleigh Childrens Courts. The pilot allows the appointment of people who have special knowledge to assist in complex child protection matters.

QLS is seeking feedback from members on who have experiences with the pilot program.

The pilot was introduced following a 2013 recommendation in the Queensland Child Protection Commission of Inquiry report: ‘Taking Responsibility: A Roadmap for Queensland Child Protection’. It recommended that the Department of Justice and Attorney-General and the Chief Magistrate collaborate to develop the program in which the Childrens Court can access expert assistance under section 107 of the Child Protection Act 1999.
