Queensland Law Society

Elder law

Queensland Law Society (QLS) provides support and information to practitioners for elder law matters.

Elder law focuses on the rights and responsibilities of aged persons and is comprised of the following practice areas:

  • retirement villages and aged care facilities
  • aged care
  • retirement planning
  • estate planning, including wills, enduring powers of attorney and advanced health directives
  • aged pensions.

QLS and AMAQ 'Elder Abuse' initiative

QLS and Australian Medical Association Queensland (AMAQ) have joined forces to launch a trial program seeking to raise awareness and reporting of elder abuse. The trial will focus on GP clinics within an area stretching from Brisbane North up to Kilcoy and has commenced in recognition that the GP clinic might be one of the few safe places where potential subjects of abuse might be alone and able to discuss the difficulties they are experiencing with a trusted advisor.
