How to Become a Member

 

1. Check that you meet the membership criteria

You are eligible for full membership of QLS if your name appears on the Roll of Solicitors in Queensland.

If you are not a solicitor but work in the legal profession, are studying law, serving an articled clerkship, or you are a university professor, you are eligible for associate membership.

University students studying law are eligible for free student membership, which includes full access to the QLS website, all member benefits and member functions.

2. Complete the application forms

Application forms are available from the admission & practising requirements page in the for the profession section of this website.

3. Attach payment & submit your application

Applications should be submitted to the address listed on the form. Cash payment is only available if you pay in person at Law Society House. Cheques should be made payable to Queensland Law Society Inc.

4. Receive your membership kit

New members receive a welcome kit which includes information about membership, brochures and forms, partner discounts plus much more. Along with the welcome kit is your unique username and password for access to the member-only pages of this website.

5. Become familiar with your obligations

All members should become familiar with the Legal Profession Act, Legal Profession Regulation, Queensland Law Society Act, QLS Rules and the rulings of Council. You should also ensure you always hold a current practising certificate (full members), notify QLS in writing of any change of address or employment and have your voice heard by participating in QLS council elections (full members).
