The Department of Justice and Attorney-General is the government department responsible for the justice system in Queensland. The Attorney-General is the state's first law officer.

The department is the lead agency for the state's criminal, civil and human rights laws and administers a large volume of legislation. Among the many other areas of responsibility of the department are the provision of court services, the protection and promotion of human rights, legal services such as public prosecution and Crown Law, the registration of births, deaths and marriages and the appointment of Justices of the Peace.
