Schools and Communities Education Services

The Queensland Law Society's Schools and Community Education Service is the community's gateway for simple, up-to-date information regarding the law. In 2008, the program launched its dedicated website, offering all Queenslanders the opportunity to break down the walls to learning about the law. The legal information provided by the Schools and Community Education Service includes:

  • Online access to archived editions of The Verdict magazine; the official publication for the program. This magazine was first published online in 2003, and is now available in hard copy by subscription. The Verdict features informative legal and community interest articles written by qualified legal professionals, allied industry members and community leaders. It provides information on legislative developments, case law, legal discussion topics and general news.
  • The SCES Speaker Bureau, allowing the law to be brought into the school classroom or community group meeting place with a visit by a practising legal professional. Speaker presentations are arranged by the bureau on the topic of choice, and at a time and place that is suitable for all parties. If there's a legal topic you are interested in, and you think a legal professional could bring the topic to life for your group, relate personal experiences and answer questions, the Speaker Bureau could be the place to help.
  • A vast array of easy-to-read Fact Sheets and information brochures covering interesting legal issues and areas of law. These fact sheets greatly benefit the community, providing access to simple and contemporary legal information.
  • The SCES Resource Library with its broad range of legal material, including DVDs of top legal speakers, conferences and seminars; training and education videos, CDs, books and allied industry information.

The Schools and Community Education Service website is easy to navigate and has an extensive list of links to informative, law-related materials and websites from across Queensland, around Australia and all over the world. There is benefit in the program for everyone!
