What do I need to do to apply for the Specialist Accreditation program?
Step One:
Please ensure that you read the following documents thoroughly before applying for the Specialist Accreditation program:
- Specialist Accreditation Handbook – specifically the eligibility criteria; and
- Assessment Criteria for the area you are considering gaining accreditation in.
Step Two:
Consider purchasing a Past Assessment Kit in your area of accreditation.
Past assessment kits contain past exam papers and take home assessment items on a CD and can be useful to assess what is expected of you in the assessment items and to guide your preparation.
Step Three:
Consider attending the Specialist Accreditation Information Evening held on Wednesday 7 March 2012.
Attending this evening will provide you with information on:
- the application and assessment process
- course expectations; and
- preparatory techniques.
This evening will also give you the opportunity to join area-specific discussion groups so you can ask questions of the Specialist Accreditation Advisory Committee and newly accredited specialists in your area of interest regarding performance criteria, core knowledge and the individual assessment components.
Please note that this session will be filmed and complimentary dvds of the evening will be available for regional practitioners.
Step Four – APPLY
Once you feel comfortable with the eligibility requirements, assessment items, important dates and course expectations, you are ready to apply.
Your application must include:
1. Completed Specialist Accreditation Application Form
2. Three completed Referee Report Forms or an indication that your referees will submit these reference forms directly to the Queensland Law Society
3. Resume of Work – consult the Assessment Criteria in your area of specialty for guidance.
4. Application fee - $990 inc GST
By the application closing date, please submit all of the above to the Queensland Law Society via email/fax/post to:

What if I do not meet the eligibility criteria?
If you are not able to satisfy the criteria concerning:
- Years of experience in practice; or
- Level of involvement in the area of practice
you will need to make a discretionary application to the specific Advisory Committee.
To make a discretionary application, you must include a formal letter with your application outlining the reasons why discretion is required and why the Advisory Committee should exercise their discretion and accept you as a candidate. Please contact us for further information.
