This short seminar aims at educating practitioners on the efficient conduct of cases by considering alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes in order to maximise efficiency in the timely resolution of cases.

Course code: 100824

5:30pm–7:00pm

In the recent past, a greater emphasis has been placed on accessing alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes prior to going into trial. The sub groups convened by the Honourable Justices John Byrne, Alan Wilson, Martin Daubney and Peter Applegarth of the Supreme Court of Queensland are “working towards the better resolution of litigation through developing practical ways of reducing complexity and cost”. One area of work of the better resolution group is “examining ADR to see what improvements might be achieved.” (“_Development in Civil Litigation – The Better Resolution Group”_ by the Honourable Justice John H Byrne).

This short evening seminar has been designed in consultation with the ADR sub-group convened by the Honourable Justice Alan Wilson. This seminar will focus on:

  • the future of the ADR process
  • the practitioners’ perspective
  • a panel discussion involving members of the judiciary and leading practitioners
