Presented in partnership by the Queensland Law Society, Legal Aid Queensland and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service, this interactive workshop provides:
- effective communication strategies to employ when taking instructions from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients
- identification of potential areas for miscommunication including cultural and language difficulties
- a demonstration of persuasive advocacy principles in framing questions as well as defending witnesses culturally within the justice system
- judicial and social worker perspectives and discussion of key considerations in court proceedings for Indigenous clients
