Choosing a solicitor

When choosing a solicitor, like choosing any other professional service, you should satisfy yourself by comparing different solicitors' experience, service and costs.

A good place to start is to consider a solicitor you or your family or friends have used in the past, perhaps to prepare a will or help buy or sell a home. Asking somebody to recommend a solicitor is often a good way of finding out about the service you can expect to receive.

Queensland Law Society has an online referral service on this website which can advise you of solicitors in your area who can help you in a particular area of law. Solicitors and legal firms also advertise their services in many places such as the Yellow Pages and your local paper.

It is always in your best interest to employ a solicitor who is very experienced in the area of law you require. Queensland Law Society has a specialist accreditation program which easily identifies those solicitors who have specialist experience in family, personal injury, property, succession or immigration law.
