How to Use the Online Referral Search
Enter your search criteria in only one field for a wide search, or
enter in more than one field for a more specific search. Searches are
not case specific.
If you receive no matches to your search, there no solicitors on the
QLS list who meet all the criteria you entered. To widen the search
results, it may be necessary to remove one or more of the criteria.
Please be aware that a solicitor is not obligated to accept any matter
NOTE: If you search by location only you will bring up a list of
all solicitors in that location. To find solicitors on the referral
list (i.e. with substantial experience in an area of law) you must
nominate a category in the area of law and/or specialist accreditation
category.
Location
Enter the area where you want to locate a solicitor.
If you select 'exact match' in the drop-down list, only locations
with that exact spelling will be displayed. If you are not sure of the
spelling of the location, try using 'sounds like'. For example entering
'mackhi' in the location field and selecting 'sounds like' in the
search type will return solicitors practising in Mackay.
Selecting 'begins with' will return results in locations whose names
begin with the criteria you entered. For example, entering 'toow' will
return solicitors practising in Toowong and Toowoomba.
Similarly, entering 'gate' in the location field and selecting
'contains' in the search type list will include solicitors practising
in Sandgate, Northgate, Margate and Highgate Hill.
For larger cities such as Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine
Coast, it is necessary to enter the suburb you require. For example,
entering 'Brisbane' will only return solicitors based in the Brisbane
CBD and not those in the outer suburbs, and entering 'Gold Coast' will
return no results at all.
Area of practice
This is the area of practice for which solicitors are registered on
QLS's referral list. Select from the drop-down list the area of
practice most relevant to the matter for which you are seeking legal
advice.
Speculative action
Some solicitors will allow you to deduct the fee for their services
from the money gained from a successful court payout, and charge no fee
if you are not successful.
Although a solicitor indicates that he will act on a speculative
basis, the final decision is made after consultation with a prospective
client.
Specialist accreditation
In addition to having extensive experience, accredited specialists
are solicitors who have satisfactorily completed an advanced study
program in a particular area of law. In Queensland, specialist
accreditation is available in Business Law, Commercial Litigation,
Criminal Law, Family Law, Immigration Law, Mediation Law, Personal
Injury Law, Property Law, Succession Law, Taxation Law and Workplace
Relations.
Language
A large number of solicitors on the referal list speak another
language. Select your desired language by using the drop-down box.
