Applications for Waiver

The two main types of waiver applications include:

  • Deferment of the PMC for a period of time (allows for the obtaining of principal certificate on the undertaking that you complete the next suitable course).
  • Exemption from undertaking the PMC, or part thereof (mainly utilised by interstate and overseas practitioners wanting to ‘transfer’ their principal certificates held in other jurisdictions on a mutual recognition basis). Please note: completion of an interstate PMC is not an immediate grounds for exemption.

All applications are to be received in hard copy and sent to our Records Department with the appropriate forms and supporting documentation attached. Note that all applications are referred to the Practice Management Course Committee and are assessed on an individual basis. Also be aware that we conduct a number of standard checks before approving your application (Audit, Insurance and Complaints). Make sure that if you have been subject to any complaints or insurance claims that you list these in your statutory declaration.

Please refer to the “Important Notice to Waiver Applicants” form before submitting an application. A list of documents to be submitted include:

  • Completed waiver application form
  • Statutory Declaration
  • Undertaking (this may form part of your stat. dec.)
  • Letter of partnership offer from your firm (if currently working as an employed solicitor)
  • Any supporting documentation eg. Certificates of Admission, Resume, Copies of Practising Certificates etc (of particular importance if applying for a full exemption based on mutual recognition).
