Why would I be interested in becoming an accredited specialist?
Gaining accreditation is a significant achievement both personally and professionally.
Becoming an Accredited Specialist:
- acknowledges your high level of practical skill and knowledge in a specialist area;
- ensures you maintain a reputation for excellence amongst the profession and the public;
- builds the credibility of your practice and your firm;
- ensures your expertise is easily identified by the public;
- encourages referrals from other members of the profession;
- ensures your name and contact details are placed on the Queensland Law Society Solicitor Referral List which results in the distribution of your details to the public when legal advice in your specialist area is sought;
- offers you the ability to market and promote your specialist skills through the use of the Specialist Accreditation logo and post-nominals (Acc. Spec.) after your name on stationery, marketing materials and your firm’s website;
- often results in your involvement in CLE seminars and conferences, where you may be consulted in the program development stage or given the opportunity to increase your CPD points through presenting at these events;
- ensures an invitation to various networking events in your area of speciality;
- offers you credit towards an LLM at selected universities in Qld.
Beyond these benefits of accreditation, practitioners who undertake the Specialist Accreditation assessment process will automatically be granted the 10 CPD points* for the following year – regardless of their success.
* includes 8 general CPD points and 1 CPD point in each of the core areas of Practical Legal Ethics and Professional Skills.
