Queensland Law Society today congratulated a fellow Queenslander, Federal Court Chief Justice Patrick Keane, on his appointment to Australia’s High Court.
Justice Keane is the 50th High Court Judge, and only the eighth Queenslander, to be appointed since the first sitting of the first Bench in 1903.
Deputy President Annette Bradfield said the Chief Justice is highly respected as a lawyer and a judge throughout Queensland and around the country.
“From the perspective of Queensland’s legal profession, we have a deep respect for Justice Keane’s experience and wisdom and appreciation for his generosity of spirit,” Ms Bradfield said.
“Last year Justice Keane spoke at our North Queensland Symposium - it’s always rewarding for practitioners to hear him speak, and we welcome Justice Keane whenever he comes back to his home state.
“Of course, Justice Keane has also served the country well in the Federal Court and we know his intellect, courage and compassion will be equally appreciated in the High Court.”
