Queensland Law Society today congratulated two former members Deputy Chief Magistrate Ray Rinaudo and Magistrate Leanne O’Shea who were appointed as Chief Magistrate and Deputy Chief Magistrate, respectively.

Current Deputy Chief Magistrate Rinaudo, who served as Queensland Law Society President from 1991 to 1992 and has been a Queensland Magistrate for nine years, will be elevated to Chief Magistrate and sworn in as a District Court Judge.

Magistrate O’Shea, who currently serves as Brisbane’s Children’s Court Magistrate and was formerly President of the Women Lawyers Association of Queensland, will be Deputy Chief Magistrate.

Both appointees are warmly welcomed, having displayed their capability over decades of service to the Queensland legal profession and the community.

“We welcome the appointment of former members of the Society, both appointees having had significant experience in the Magistracy and in practice as solicitors,” said Queensland Law Society Deputy President Michael Fitzgerald.

“We are particularly pleased that our former President, Ray Rinaudo, has been selected for the position of Chief Magistrate.

“We also congratulate our new Deputy Chief Magistrate Leanne O’Shea on her appointment.”
