Queensland Law Society CEO Amelia Hodge has described the reported violent death of a ninth woman in Australia so far this year as heartbreaking, abhorrent and unacceptable.

Ms Hodge said the death of any woman as a result of violence was repugnant, but that the death of nine women in two months was unfathomable.

The comments come after Destroy the Joint, a group calling for an end to all violence against women, reported the latest victim to be a 34-year-old woman found dead in a car on a remote stretch of highway in Western Australia.

Last year Destroy the Joint reported 79 women had been killed in violent attacks in 2015.

For her part, Ms Hodge will be dancing in support of the vital work Women’s Legal Service provide by delivering free legal and welfare assistance to Queensland women and their children affected by domestic violence on April 15.

She is one of 12 CEOs who will be burning up the dancefloor in support of the Service’s annual fundraiser.

“A $35 donation supports WLS to help a woman and her children for one month,” Ms Hodge said.

“A $60 donation gives an hour of free legal help with her domestic violence or family law matter, and a $420 donation supports WLS to help a woman and her children for a year.”
