QLS Law Week activities set to take flight

Queensland Law Society is playing a major role in Law Week 2012 (14-20 May), with events catering for everyone from early birds to night owls.

Walk for Justice – a national tradition

Across Australia the legal profession will be up at dawn-o’clock on 15 May to take part in the Walk for Justice around their respective cities.

Queensland Law Society is a proud sponsor of the Brisbane event that aims to highlight the importance of pro bono legal services and the volunteer solicitors who provide these services.

Criminal history tours

The Society’s popular criminal history tours are underway and limited places are still available (14, 16 and 17 May) for those keen to explore the dark side of Brisbane’s past.

The tours cover significant criminal and legal affairs over the past 160 years of Brisbane’s history, delving into the fascinating and fearsome events that have shaped our legislation and criminal justice system. They are proudly sponsored by QUT Practice Legal Training.

Back to Tudor times

The Society is a major sponsor of a public performance of A Man for All Seasons (17 May), the classic tale of how Thomas More paid the ultimate price for his personal values during Henry VIII’s reign.

The play stars judges, barristers and other legal practitioners – even Society President John de Groot will tread the boards.

Lawyers have a ball

The Queensland Law Society Ball on 18 May will cap off Law Week with fine food and great entertainment.

This is the opportunity for members of the legal profession to get together and celebrate their legacy, professional community and achievements.
