Queensland Law Society has welcomed the government’s announcement this morning of an additional $500,000 in funding over two years for Women’s Legal Service (WLS).
President Ian Brown said the community legal centre provides essential legal help for women in the areas of domestic violence and family law.
“Queensland Law Society has long supported WLS and is pleased the organisation can now plan future services with greater certainty,” Mr Brown said.
“We are strong advocates for equitable access to legal services, a key component of which is adequate government funding for community legal centres.
“Securing this funding is a huge lift for the many volunteer solicitors that help women in need on the phone through WLS’s advice line, in person at their legal advice service in Annerley, Brisbane and through duty lawyer services in the Magistrates Court.”
