Queensland Law Society (QLS) president Michael Fitzgerald on behalf of QLS Council is delighted to announce the appointment of Amelia Hodge as its new CEO, effective 20 July 2015.

Ms Hodge, who obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Queensland University of Technology (QUT), is a senior executive with more than 25 years of legal, project, governance and commercial experience. Ms Hodge succeeds Noela L’Estrange, who has led the Society with distinction for the past six years.

Mr Fitzgerald says Ms Hodge brings to the Society and its members a high level of leadership skill and commercial expertise.

“Ms Hodge’s diverse career includes appointments across the private and public sectors, and across a range of industries,” he says.

“She was chosen in a competitive selection process from a strong field of candidates. She demonstrated to the Council excellent leadership, governance, strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement, management and financial management skill sets. She has held a number of board positions since 2010.

“The Society looks forward to welcoming her as our new CEO.”

Most recently, Ms Hodge was Group Manager, Network Property at Powerlink Queensland.

She has also worked in a number of senior management and project roles with Origin Energy, Coffey Commercial Advisory and the Sustainable Industries Division of the Queensland Environmental Protection Agency. She is a non-executive director of Transmax Pty Ltd and was previously a non-executive director of Gladstone Area Water Board and a member of the Great Artesian Basin Advisory Council on behalf of the Office for Women.

She was admitted to practise law in 1991 after undertaking articles of clerkship at MacGillivrays Solicitors. She practised as a solicitor for several years including operating a small property practice Brisbane Law, also known as Brisbane Mobile Lawyers.

In addition to her LLB, Ms Hodge holds a Graduate Certificate in Property Economics from QUT. She has also completed the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government Infrastructure and the Market Economy Executive Program. She is currently studying for an Executive Masters of Business Administration at the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM NSW) and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Women on Boards.
