Elder abuse awareness campaign update
26 July 2017
The joint initiative between AMAQ and Queensland Law Society to raise elder abuse awareness in the community was launched on 15 June. ‘GP packs’ were provided to 321 clinics in the Brisbane North Primary Health Network area, and the campaign has been promoted across several media outlets throughout Brisbane and the regions.
Data is still yet to be collated, but anecdotally, we have heard that this campaign has been a useful conduit in increasing community awareness of what elder abuse is and the help that is available. The aim of this campaign is that it will encourage increased reporting of abuse to the Elder Abuse Prevention Unit Helpline, and the data can then be utilised to support requests for additional community education around elder abuse and resourcing for assistance groups.
