QLS annual report wins ARA silver

I am delighted to announce that Queensland Law Society (QLS) was presented with an Australasian Reporting Awards (ARA) silver award for its 2013-14 annual report at the ARA dinner in Melbourne last Thursday 18 June. This is the second consecutive year that the Society has been recognised in the awards, with the 2012-13 annual report winning bronze.

The awards were introduced 65 years ago with an aim to improve the accountability of activities of organisations. The awards process involves setting criteria to guide report preparation: holding an annual seminar on how to prepare an effective annual report, and reviewing reports and rewarding organisations that satisfy the criteria with an award – gold, silver or bronze.

The ARA also presents special awards for reporting in areas that are critical to the performance and accountability of an organisation. These include awards for best reporting on governance, sustainability, work health and safety, and awards for communication and online reporting and integrated reporting.

The 2015 ARA Report of the Year was awarded in the listed and other companies category to Woodside Petroleum Limited, and to CSIRO in the non-commercial (government) organisations category.

More information on the 2015 award recipients is available here.

ARA chairman Tim Sheehy said the standard of annual reporting by all of this year’s award recipients had “never been higher”, reflecting their “strong commitment to communicating to their stakeholders openly, honestly and effectively”.

Congratulations to all those involved in designing, writing and editing the QLS annual report.
