Queensland Government State election – let them hear your voice
18 July 2011
Queensland Law Society is determined that the voice of legal practitioners is heard at the next State election.
In consultation with our Sections and Committees, a draft list of the top 10 issues for the legal profession has been developed for presentation to the major political parties before the next election.
These issues have received initial endorsement from Council and we now need seek member review and feedback via the Call to Parties consultation paper.
The consultation paper covers a range of practice areas and matters critical to the profession. Identifying and representing the profession on these key issues forms part of a strategic approach to raise priority issues early and get them on the political agenda.
The earliest date for an election is mooted to be November 2011, so we are keen to put these issues forward and raise their profile as soon as possible.
Your responses are essential to ensuring we submit issues to the major political parties that are relevant, important and ‘hit home’ for practitioners.
Feedback will be collated and the issues re-presented to Council for final endorsement based on this outcome.
We appreciate your time reviewing and providing a response to the consultation paper. It is expected we will approach the major political parties with the agreed priority issues in September.
