Phase 2 of QLS’s support for the legal profession

Last week, QLS CEO Rolf Moses and President Luke Murphy announced some details of ‘Phase 2’ of QLS’s support for legal practitioners. This is able to be provided due to $750,000 funding from Queensland Law Foundation and I’d like to thank them for their support.

The first part of ‘phase 2’ that you’ll notice is the extension of the free (to QLS full members) advice services provided by the QLS Ethics and Practice Centre. The Employment Law Assistance Service, General Manager Support Service and Government Financial Assistance Service will be extended beyond 30 June 2020 and will continue as long as there continues to be demand for these services. You can find more information eligibility criteria on our website.

QLS, via our independent legal practice QLS Solicitor Support, will also undertake an outreach program for small and micro practices. In practice, this will be an extension of the outreach program already underway and will mean that senior QLS practice support solicitors and QLS Senior Counsellors will be calling and visiting practices to help principals work through issues resulting from COVID-19. We are now working to finalise the structure of this program to continue to support legal practitioners in Queensland. More details will be released in coming weeks.
