QLS welcomes appointment of permanent Townsville magistrate
11 October 2019
Queensland Law Society has welcomed the appointment of acting North Queensland magistrate and former solicitor Richard Lehmann to a permanent role in Townsville for the next three years.
QLS President Bill Potts said it was always good to see a member of the solicitor’s branch of the legal profession elevated to positions on the judiciary.
"QLS has consistently supported the need for more magistracy appointments in regional Queensland and we applaud the government for recognising that in filling an additional permanent position in Townsville," Mr Potts said.
Mr Lehman was solicitor for a private Townsville law firms and Legal Aid Queensland and was one of the original Judicial Registrars from the pilot announced by Attorney-General Kerry Shine in 2007.
Lehmann has remained a Judicial Registrar and has lately been an acting magistrate.
