Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability

On 5 April 2019, the Prime Minister announced the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability.

The terms of reference include:

  • what governments, institutions and the community should do to prevent and better protect people with disability from experiencing violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation
  • what governments, institutions and the community should do to achieve best practice to encourage reporting and effective responses
  • what should be done to promote a more inclusive society which supports the right and independence of people with disability.

A full report on the consultation process and a stand-alone website for the royal commission will be released in the coming weeks. QLS will monitor the progress of the royal commission and will seek the views of members in forming a submission during the period of public consultation.
