You work hard – how to negotiate some security over your fees?
Are you working on a deferred fee basis, either by agreement from the outset or because the client is no longer able to pay progressively? You are entitled to request “reasonable security” to protect your interests. Such security must be negotiated and documented carefully or it is highly likely to be set aside, or to land the firm in “ethical” hot water. Or both.
