Cultural Heritage Acts

The Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships is reviewing the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Heritage Act 2003. The review will examine whether the legislation is:

  • continuing to operate as intended
  • achieving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other stakeholders in Queensland
  • aligning with the Queensland Government’s broader objective to reframe the relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • requiring any updates to reflect the current native title landscape.

The review will also examine whether the legislation is consistent with contemporary drafting standards. Access the consultation paper.

Please provide your feedback before COB Friday 21 June 2019.
