Modern slavery reporting requirement

The Commonwealth Modern Slavery Act 2018 (the Act) was passed on 29 November 2018 and came into effect on 1 January 2019.

The Department of Home Affairs is inviting stakeholders to provide submissions on the Draft guidance for reporting entities. The aim of the guidance is to explain what entities need to do to comply with the Act. Access further information.

Special Joint Taskforce to investigate subcontractor non-payment in the Queensland building and construction industry

A Special Joint Taskforce, led by retired Supreme Court Judge John Byrne, is investigating complaints and allegations of fraudulent behaviour that has led to subcontractor non-payment in the Queensland building and construction industry. The Taskforce is seeking examples of instances of subcontractor non-payment and any views relating to the supervisory and investigative powers to deal with fraudulent conduct.

The Taskforce will provide recommendations to the Government by 30 June 2019. Access further information.

Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety

The Law Council of Australia is seeking feedback about the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. The commissioners are required to provide an interim report by 31 October 2019.
