A $95 million surplus in confiscated criminal profits could be the saviour of legal aid.
Queensland’s peak law groups have described the state’s legal aid system as being in a state of crisis due to a lack of federal funding and that justice was being denied to thousands of people each year.
More than 97 percent of mentally ill Queenslanders locked up under involuntary detention orders have no legal representation if they wish to fight unjust incarceration, according to Queensland Law Society.
