The Queensland Law Society has congratulated Brett Pointing on his appointment as Police Commissioner.
Commissioner Pointing will be officially sworn in on Friday (February 20) on a 12 month interim basis following the recent retirement of Steve Gollschewski.
QLS President Peter Jolly said Commissioner Pointing brings extensive experience in policing, both in Queensland and nationally.
“Commissioner Pointing has dedicated much of his life to public safety and community service. I congratulate him on his appointment and wish him well as he steps into this important role,” Mr Jolly said.
“The legal profession and the Queensland Police Service each carry significant responsibilities within our justice system. We look forward to continuing a constructive and respectful relationship with law enforcement in the public interest.”
Mr Jolly also expressed his appreciation for outgoing Commissioner Steve Gollschewski.
“Commissioner Gollschewski has serviced Queenslanders for more than forty years. His commitment and contribution deserve sincere acknowledgement and thanks.”
Mr Pointing has more than 40 years of policing experience, having previously served in senior leadership roles including Deputy Commissioner, District Officer on the Gold Coast from 2004 to 2007 and disaster recovery coordinator for Bundaberg and the North Burnett in 2013.
He moved to the Australian Federal Police in 2020 and was on the Independent Advisory Panel of the Commissioner’s 100-Day Review of the Queensland Police Service.
