Find a solicitor terms and conditions

Eligibility

To be eligible for inclusion in the Find a Solicitor search you must be a full member of the Queensland Law Society (QLS).

 A practitioner is not eligible for inclusion in the Find a Solicitor search if they:

  • Have a restricted practising certificate.
  • Have been found guilty of professional misconduct, or unsatisfactory professional conduct, by a disciplinary body cannot be on the Referral List until a period of ten (10) years has elapsed from the date of the finding.
  • Are currently the subject of disciplinary action by the Legal Services Commission, or in any other jurisdiction.
  • Have had their practising certificate cancelled or suspended under the Legal Profession Act 2007 (Qld.) or a corresponding law as defined in that Act within the last 10 years.

QLS reserves the right, in its absolute discretion, to:

  • refuse to include a practitioner in the Find a Solicitor search
  • remove any practitioner from the Find a Solicitor search for good cause
  • take into account matters such as complaints history and any other matters of concern when considering whether to include, or determining whether a practitioner should remain on the list
  • ask a practitioner to provide further information in support of the practitioner’s application

QLS acknowledges that it is a practitioner’s right to determine whether he/she will enter into a retainer with any person referred by the Society.

Privacy

The Find a Solicitor search will display personal information related to your employment that you have provided to QLS, including:

  • name
  • business email address
  • business phone number
  • website
  • areas of practice

Members have the sole responsibility to ensure that these details are correct and must update them with QLS if they change.

In accordance with the Electronic Transactions (Queensland) Act 2001, the Society may provide notices by electronic communication. By completing this application, your consent to this form of contact is taken to be given. The Society may also use third parties to administer and deliver services and communications to members by email or mail. Some third party suppliers or their products and services are located overseas. Business details and personal information you choose to provide on this application may be transferred to an overseas recipient and stored overseas to administer such services and communications to you. By completing this application, you agree to this transfer and Australian Privacy Principle 8.1 will not apply to this disclosure.

If you do not wish your details to be used for any one or more of the above purposes, you should advise the Records section of the Society, GPO Box 1785, Brisbane Qld 4001 in writing.
