Library services

Queensland Law Society full members have complimentary access to Supreme Court Library Queensland’s (SCLQ) legal information research service, resources and support services.

Overview

You can visit your free member library in person in Brisbane, Cairns, Rockhampton and Townsville. (Please note the Rockhampton and Townsville libraries are temporarily closed.)

Queensland Law Society full member benefits include:

  • free research (1 hour a week*) and document supply (20 documents a week*)
  • 24-hour access to the Brisbane library (on application)
  • free access to the public legal research collection (available online with an SCLQ subscription)
  • free use of onsite library facilities and collections
  • free legal research training and support using legal research databases.

Virtual Legal Library (VLL)

Virtual Legal Library (VLL) is an online resource helping eligible library members with their legal research and case preparation.

It provides free online access to a large number of key legal publications from leading publishers LexisNexis and CCH. Available publications span civil, criminal and family law and include core commentary services, law reports, textbooks and journals.

Eligibility

VLL is currently available to QLS full members who are:

  • sole practitioners, or
  • from small firms with five or less practising certificates (micro firms)

Usage Limits

The free legal information research service provided by SCLQ for QLS full members is subsidised by QLS.

Full QLS members are eligible for the following weekly entitlements:

  • Free research: up to 1 hour a week*
  • Free document supply: up to 20 documents a week*

*Unused weekly entitlements do not accrue

Fees apply for urgent requests and requests in excess of the free entitlements.

Availability

The library is a highly-valued resource for QLS full members. Members can search the catalogue, browse the library collections and submit information requests online.
