Our Recruitment Process

Our process includes several stages, each helping us build a clear picture of your experience and potential, while also helping you learn more about us.

Our Recruitment Process

At Queensland Law Society, our recruitment process is about mutual discovery – it helps us find the right person for the role, and it helps you decide if QLS is the right place for you.

What is the application process?

ll QLS applications begin through our online recruitment platform. When you apply, you will be asked to create a username and password – this lets you track your application and return to it later if needed.

We encourage all applicants to upload a CV:

  • Keep your CV under three pages
  • Tailor it to highlight how your skills and experience align with the role
  • A cover letter is optional but welcomed – it is a great way to tell us more about your interest in the role and what makes you a strong fit

You do not need to formally respond to selection criteria, but we encourage you to clearly connect your background to the requirements of the role.

If your application progresses, you may be invited to a short phone conversation with a member of our hiring team. This is usually a 15–20 minute discussion where we get to know you a little better and give you the opportunity to learn more about the role and QLS.

Our interviews are generally behavioural in style – designed to explore your experience and how you approach different types of situations at work. Most applicants can expect:

  • One to two interviews
  • A face-to-face meeting (or online where necessary)
  • Follow-up interviews may involve other team members or relevant stakeholders, depending on the role.

Our interviews are not designed to catch you out – we want to understand how you think, what you value and how you work with others. We recommend reviewing the role description and familiarising yourself with our mission and purpose before your interview. We're looking for alignment, curiosity and potential – not perfection.

Before an offer is made, we will conduct reference checks with your nominated referees. Pre-employment checks may also be required depending on the position.

If you are the successful candidate, we will extend a formal offer of employment and discuss next steps to welcome you to the QLS team
