Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced this morning that from 5 pm today, Monday 29 March 2021, Greater Brisbane will lockdown for three days.
The announcement comes after Queensland recorded 10 new cases of COVID-19, including four that were locally acquired.
Two are known contacts of previous cases and two are under investigation. All of the new cases have been confirmed as the “highly infectious” mutant UK strain of the virus, prompting a snap three-day lockdown for Greater Brisbane.
“That lockdown will be for greater Brisbane, which is Brisbane, Logan, Moreton Bay, Ipswich and Redlands and will commence at 5:00pm this afternoon,” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.
Schools will close from Tuesday, and people within the Greater Brisbane regions will only be allowed to leave their homes for four essential reasons:
- To buy essential like groceries or medications
- Work or study – if you can’t do either from home
- Exercise in your local area
- Healthcare or to provide help, care or support.
