Pimp My Mind: Why 'The Great Resignation' could be an opportunity for young lawyers

When organising events is your job, you get an idea of what works and what doesn’t when it comes to networking and standing out from the crowd.

Events managers have seen it all, so if you are attending an event hosted by a business or company you respect or desire to get in front of, here are five tips from event experts to help you make an impact.

1. Prioritise your attendance and minimise distractions throughout the event

By being truly present and engaging with the content. Where possible using a notepad versus an electronic device, limiting notifications and blocking your calendar can be helpful.

2. Promote the event and your attendance on LinkedIn

It shows your colleagues, peers, employers, possible employers that you are eager for new learning and networking opportunities.

3. Read the materials!

If there are materials made available prior to the event, take the time to read over beforehand, it will make the day much more enjoyable when you are familiar with the subject prior.

4. Be on time

Organisations make note of poor time management and it’s a huge mark of disrespect not just for the hosting organisation but also everyone that volunteered their time, such as speakers, to make the event worthwhile for you.

5. Get by with a little help from your friends

Let your colleagues know you are going and get someone to go along with you. It always makes things easier to network when you have a friend with you. And it is nice to have someone to discuss the subject matter with after an event.

Well there you have it! If you’re unsure where to show off your new skills and put those tips into practice, check out the QLS upcoming events section on our website!
