It’s cliché to say, but seriously, how is it already November? This time of year can feel a bit chaotic with everyone trying to cram events in before December comes along with even more events! Don’t stress though – just keep reading for some early career lawyer-specific recommendations.

Indigenous Identity (SBS Insight)

The 2021 census showed a large increase in the number of Australians who identify as First Nations. Indigenous community leaders are concerned that this influx of newly-identified people will have serious consequences and lead to “distortions of culture and people.”

Dr Stephan Hagan, a Kullilli man, said “the burden of proof is not [upon] those people claiming to be Aboriginal. The onus is on the people who are challenging them. We don’t have the capacity, the financial resources to take them to court.”
