International Women's Day online panel session - 8 March

There’s a lot going on in March, but our pick of the bunch is the International Women’s Day panel livestream.

Did you know that over 50 per cent of the profession in Queensland identifies as female?

In partnership with the Bar Association of Queensland and the Women Lawyers Association of Queensland Inc, we will be hosting a free online panel discussion where guest speakers will share their stories, discuss how we can work together to forge women’s equality in the legal profession and maybe even inspire you to share your story.

It’s on Tuesday 8 March, which is – you guessed it – International Women’s Day. And did we mention it’s free? Registrations close at 5pm today, 4 March, so make sure you hurry and secure your spot!

The career advice you probably didn't get | Susan Colantuono

Susan Colantuono is the retired CEO Founder of Leading Women, and in this famous TED Talk she asks the question: why are there so many women stuck in middle management, and what must be done to close the leadership gender gap?

Regardless of your gender identity, it’s an interesting watch.

Mentoring Matters

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the devastating effect isolation can have on our wellbeing. Mentoring provides one solution to ensure we feel connected and supported by others and to build our resilience and courage so that we can navigate our workplaces and ourselves, during the pandemic, and beyond.

Read on to find out the what, why and how of mentoring.

Motherhood, disability and career

Carol and Theresa are two mothers at very different points in their legal careers who share a unique experience – working in law with a disability. They each share their story and reflect back on the wisdom left behind by the Notorious RBG that “so often in life, things that you regard as an impediment turn out to be great, good fortune”.

Listen

The Callover podcast

Ok so we mentioned it last month, but we’re really proud of our new podcast, The Callover! There are a bunch of episodes to listen to now, they’re all under 30 minutes, and full of valuable information from incredible lawyers on all sorts of topics.

You can listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or anywhere else you get your podcasts.

Lofi chill beats playlist

If you need to knuckle down and really focus, you need some background music that’s not too distracting but not so relaxing it’ll put you to sleep. Enter this lofi chill beats playlist by none other than… Lofi & Chill Beats. Put your headphones in and get to it!

Do

Symposium

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably saw this coming. It’s the event of the year, and registrations close VERY soon (8 March, to be precise)! In-person tickets are all gone, but you can still get online tickets.

Taking place on 11 March, Symposium offers 30 different sessions across 7 streams, and you get 10+ CPD points. It’s truly an unmissable event, so see you there!

Young Professionals networking event

Fancy something a bit more relaxed? We’ve partnered with Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand, Emerging Professionals in Infrastructure Queensland, Gold Coast Junior Chamber of Commerce, and Gold Coast District Law Association for a fun evening of networking over drinks and canapés.

It’s on 17 March at the Edgewater Dining & Lounge Bar in Surfer’s Paradise. Buy your ticket here.

Job Readiness survey

This one you don’t even need to leave your couch for! It should take you just 10 minutes, and for such a small amount of time you can make a huge impact on the future of the legal profession.

Think back to when you were at uni – what do you think should have been done differently in your degree? Did you and your cohort gain all the skills necessary for entry into the professional world? How are you finding other recent law graduates’ job readiness?

Hold those thoughts and let the researchers know. It closes 31 March, so hurry and have your say!

That's all for the month of March. See you back here again in April!
